Hager Captures First Victory, Howard Rolls on to Championship Number 4

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 23, 2006) - Stewartsville, NJ's, Gary Hager couldn't have been happier after picking up his first victory in Big Block Modified competition at the Bridgeport Speedway, but it was Duane Howard stealing the spotlight leading the Chad Sinon Motorsports/BPG Racing #4 machine to the 2006 Modified Championship.
"Our team really needed this," Hager explained in victory lane ceremonies. "We haven't had a win in about four years or so, and these guys work really hard we needed this."
Hager overtook early race leader Don Barone on the seventh circuit in the 25 lap feature event, which was overwhelmed with early caution flags. Hager easily pulled away, with Rick Laubach's Dick Biever owned #14 running the runner-up position. As Laubach challenged it was Duane Howard powering through the field from a 14th starting position, challenging and passing Laubach for second place. With his eyes on Hager, Howard fought forward attempting to win the battle and the war, as Hager quickly dodged in and out of lapped traffic, it wasn't as easy for the Champion, Howard. His attempt left him threading the needle between two lapped cars, giving Hager the opportunity to pull away and easily lead the Quality Drywall #44H to victory. Howard would settle for second in the event, however would easily capture the Modified Championship. Rick Laubach came home in third followed by Richie Pratt, Jr. and Jimmy Chester.
Laurel, DE's Kevin Collins led the Bo's Construction #126 to it's second victory of the season, holding off a hard charging John Pursell in the 20 lap 358 Small Block division. While Pursell settled for second in the event, he easily captured the 358 Small Block Championship his first title ever. Eric Kormann rolled home third in the 20 lap feature, followed by Bob Lineman Jr. and Tom Miller.
John Micek overtook Mike Hires on the eleventh circuit to pick up the win in the Sunoco Sportsman division. Micek held off a strong running Chuck Hopkins at the drop of the checkered. However, it was Todd Kuhl who remained calmed and picked up the 2006 Season Championship despite a seventh place finish in the event. Pat Hires finished third in the 15 lap feature followed by Mike Hires and Jon Haegele.
Pat Conaway started in the 16th position and captured the lead on the fourth circuit to easily pick up his sixth feature event win of the season in the Outlaw Stock division. Rich Reider came home in second followed by Bill Miller, Gary Klimeczak and Ken Watson. Watson's fifth place finished allowed him to pick up the Championship in the Outlaw Stock division over Gary Klimeczak.

Story from Bridgeport Speedway, http://www.bridgeportspeedway.net/

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (July 24, 2005)- Mike Iles of Medford, NJ, had a memorable night this past Saturday. Iles picked up wins in his heat race, the feature event and the $1400 Bandit Bonus as Irwin Tools presented Gibbstown/Paulsboro Night at the Bridgeport Speedway.

"I really have to thank my guys for this one, they worked so hard. We didn't get this car back until Thursday," Iles said of the Dirt Wheels machine that was destroyed in an accident two weeks prior. "I was ready to run the back-up car and they told me we'd get this one back together."

Iles took full advantage of a third place starting position grabbing the lead from pole sitter Tom Hager and never looking back. Iles lead every lap of the caution free 9 minute and 53 second Modified Feature in his Active Environmental Technologies/Larkin Auto Service/Dirt Wheels machine, pulling almost a full straight-a-way over second place runner Tom Hager. Hager settled for second, Tommy Beamer came home third, Gary Hager finished fourth and Jim Stong wrapped up the top five.

Bottcher Back on Top at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (July 2, 2005)- Lehighton, PAs, Steve Bottcher finally found the fast line around the Bridgeport Speedway, ending a four year Bridgeport winless streak on Saturday with a convincing Modified victory in "The Great American Shootout" extra-distance event.

Bottcher set sail early in the 30 lap feature event battling rail-to-rail with Mike Iles - who made a bold three-wide outside pass to take over the second position from Ricky Elliott.  Steve Durand in the Bates Motel #5D made the best of the outside of the 5/8th mile dirt oval, rim riding to challenge for fourth at the mid-way mark.  With ten to go, second and third place runners Iles and, defending Champion, Duane Howard tangled in turn three resulting in Iles spinning and Howard being forced to the rear for over-aggressive driving.  This opened the door for the hard-charging Durand, who rode right on the edge until a hard hit in turn one retired the Mahwah, NJ hotshoe.  It was all Bottcher at the finish picking up his 12th career Bridgeport Speedway victory.  Jamie Mills came home in second, Jimmy Chester finished third, a well-deserved fourth went to Bob Sarkisian and Fritz Epright rounded out the top five.

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 19, 2005)-

June 18th Big Block Modified
A ten car altercation on the initial drop of the green flag collected "hot shoes" - Danny Johnson, Kenny Brightbill, Duane Howard, Kevin Hirthler, Ricky Elliott and Wade Hendrickson. On the restart, Steve Durand grabbed the early lead in the twenty-five lap Big Block Modified feature event with Jamie Mills and "Young Gun" Kyle Strickler right on his bumper. Fritz Epright blasted past three cars on a lap six restart taking over the third position and chasing down the leaders, as Mills powered past Durand on the backstretch. Mills retired his I.G. Burton Dealers #30 Bicknell two laps later with a left rear flat tire. It was all Epright from then on out as he fought off hard challenges from Jimmy Chester, Bob Sarkisian, Kyle Strickler and Rick Laubach to go and capture the victory. Jimmy Chester crossed the line second but was disqualified at the scales handing the runner-up spot to Bob Sarkisian. Kyle Strickler marched his way back to the third position after an early race altercation. Steve Durand came home fourth and Gary Hager came home fifth.

BRIDGEPORT, NJ (June 8, 2005)-

Jimmy Horton began the 40 lap Modified feature in perfect form, winning his heat race and grabbing the pole position based on the luck of the draw. Horton led the field to the initial start but the man on the move was Jamie Mills, blasting past Horton and, second place runner, Craig VonDohren, on the outside of the speedway. Horton would retire the J&D Trucking #901 on the fourth time around with mechanical problems. While Mills and VonDohren begin to stretch a straight-a-way lead over the pack; Rick Laubach powered into the third position, picking up seven spots in just as many laps and moved passed VonDohren into second position just two laps later. Wade Hendrickson, Gary Hager, Doug Hoffman and Jimmy Chester battled two and three wide, back and fourth, swapping positions four through seven. Craig VonDohren suffered motor problems with just under ten laps to go, handing the second place position over to Laubach. Emotion ran strong in a battle for fourth as Danny Johnson in the J&J Shop #27 and former J&J Shop driver, Doug Hoffman swapped some paint. Hoffman received the short-end of the stick, spinning the Supreme Welding #127 to the inside of the speedway, Hoffman retired early after brief under-caution activity. With five laps to go, Laubach slid passed Mills on the restart as Howard and Johnson followed suit. Howard kicked the wheel of the Big Springs Car Wash #126 to the inside of Laubach coming down to the checkered flag coming short by half a car length. Laubach picked up this third straight victory at the Bridgeport Speedway with Howard settling for second. Danny Johnson, Jamie Mills, and Jeff Strunk rounded out the top five.
